ARTIST STATEMENT
In general, I think that art is about being a lifelong learner: having a limitless curiosity, and pursuing that curiosity, not just about technique and material but ideas. When I look at Goyaās Saturn Devouring His Son, I donāt think just about his painterly, impasto strokes and confrontational composition. I think about his psychology and how it was affected by the massacre of the Spanish people by the French army. I put that level of inquiry into my own artwork--delving deep into my own emotional state and using technique to reflect that state.

PUBLISHED ARTIST
2017-2020
I constantly participated in the national art contest sponsored by Celebrating Art in North America. Artworks from K-12 students that are selected by the judges can be published in their anthology. Many of my artworks were accepted to be published and some of them were recognized as High Merit pieces. Out of over thousands of entries received for the contest, High Merit artworks stood out as being one of the top 5% submitted.
WRITER & EDITOR
2018-2021
I'm both a writer and an editor in Spark, our school newspaper, and I also contributed short comics that gave witty commentary on current events. As we have shifted online this year, I've taught myself InDesign and fallen in love with its sleekness and ease of production. I even wrote articles online teaching people how to do digital drawings step by step, and each posting has received thousands of views.
MEETUP MEMBER
2019-2021
As part of Drawing in D.C., I joined a community of art enthusiasts to sketch architecture, museums, and street views in Washington, D.C. We shared our work online for public feedback. Additionally, I participated in the TearDown Lab with Design Thinking members, deconstructing clothing and sports equipment to their smallest components. This experience taught me to observe the world with fresh perspectives and make more thoughtful design choices.
GRAPHIC DESIGNER
2022Ā - 2024
As the Lead Graphic Designer and Video Editor for the CFan Chinese Theater Group at UCLA, I created promotional materials for five shows, including posters and magazines designed in Illustrator. I also edited trailers, cast interviews, and blooper videos, which garnered an average of 1,000 views on Instagram and WeChat Official Account.
